Part-Time “Online” Jobs for College Students

Being a college student is tough work, but choosing a part-time online job may be an easy way to balance college and work-life. There are several online jobs that a college student can choose to do in order to make some extra money, but still be able to keep up with classes.

Transcriptionist

Most college students will find this to be one of the top online jobs that also pay well. There are countless clients who need to sift through an abundance of audio files in order to find out just what is being said. Basically, this job will involve listening to these files and recording everything that you hear in them. Many clients are willing to pay more than $18 per hour for this type of work. The more experience and positive feedback you receive, the higher you can raise your rates.

One thing to keep in mind is that this job is best suited for those who are able to do continuous and tedious tasks. You could spend hours in just one sitting so it is crucial to be able to handle this type of work. Also, there may be fast deadlines at times so it is imperative that you are able to produce quality work within a given timeframe.

Managing Social Media

Social media, among students in general, goes far beyond the label of just “popular." If you have a good amount of experience using different social media sites and being able to gain followers, then there are a lot of companies who would like to use your expertise.

Many companies do not have the time to devote to building up their social media presence. This is why they often hire social media managers to help do this for them. Social media managers are responsible for a number of tasks such as reviewing each company’s or individual’s social media profile to make sure that all elements are in place. They will also check to see ways to improve upon the sites before starting their actual campaign.

Writing

Writing can involve many different forms which makes it one of the best choices for college students. If you choose to go the route of writing you can use different forms such as school blogs, individual blogs, company blogs, marketing articles, and even press releases. If you have a particular writing style that you like, then you can use that to your advantage by focusing on writing for that specific form.

There are a few things that you need to keep in mind with this online job. To start out you may not be paid as much as you like, but with a few good articles and feedback, you can start earning more. There are some websites that pay $50 to $100 per article for writers that have the right kind of experience.

Another thing that you need to know is that there are often time constraints on many articles and you have to be prepared for that. Know what your writing speed is and make sure that you can deliver fast articles with correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling. These elements are all critical to ensuring that you will be paid accordingly for your work.

Recruiting

If you already have experience in a particular field or hobby, you can actually become a recruiter for online companies or individuals. There are often people or employers who are looking to hire certain individuals online but do not have the time to go through the hiring process themselves. This is when they choose to hire recruiters who can search for employees for them.

When in this field, you will have to show that you have an eye for details because an employer is entrusting you with the task of providing them with a quality worker. You may have to post on different websites and also hold phone, email, or chat interviews to help in choosing who will be the right candidate.

Tutoring

If you have different skills in subjects such chemistry, math, writing, art, or even biology, you can use that to become an online tutor for those who need a little help in those areas. This is a great choice for college students who are planning a career in teaching. Not only are you helping others learn more about the subjects they need help in, but you are also learning more in the ways of how to teach others.

You will have to have patience with this online job because not every person you tutor is going to grasp things as quickly as you do. You have to learn to make every aspect of the subject a process of simple steps. Also, it is important to be sure that you understand that tutoring is not a one-time job. It will be necessary to be able to provide online tutoring over the course of weeks or months. An advantage to tutoring is that the more experience and positive feedback you have, the easier it will be to charge fees that you have come up with yourself.

Surveys

Surveys are the tricky situation for online jobs. There are some legitimate websites out there, but they can often be hard to find. On the other hand, there are some rewards websites that also offer surveys as a form of earning cash or gift cards.

When searching for survey websites, be sure that you research each one to see what reviews they have on them. Also, do not waste your time with survey sites that do not pay enough per survey. If you are going to spend more than thirty minutes on a single survey then you need to be paid accordingly.

All of these are great sources of extra income when you are a college student. Working online jobs also allows you to have a better fit with your schedule, versus going to a physical store.
